An alternative to the NHS wait

Kent and Medway ICB has capped Right to Choose funding for autism assessments this financial year, adding uncertainty on top of waits that already run 8–14 months. A private assessment gives you a route to diagnosis on your own timeline.

What's included

How it works, step by step

  1. Free initial call

A short phone or video call to talk through what you're looking for, check the assessment is suitable, and answer your questions. Nothing is booked or paid until you decide to go ahead.

    15 minutes · No cost
  2. Pre-assessment forms

You'll receive secure online questionnaires covering your history and current experiences. Complete them at your own pace — there's no time limit.

    At your own pace
  3. ADI-R interview

A structured interview with a parent or someone who knew you well in early childhood, covering your development. This happens separately from your own sessions.

Approx. 2–3 hours · By video
  4. ADOS-2 assessment

A structured, interactive session with your clinician — in person where possible, or online. This is conversation and activities, not a test you can pass or fail.

Approx. 1 hour · In person or online
  5. Report & feedback

Your results are reviewed jointly with [Partner Clinician Name] before a written report is prepared. You'll then have a feedback session where everything is explained in plain language.

Before you book: the informant interview

The ADI-R requires an interview with someone who knew you well as a young child — usually a parent — lasting around 2–3 hours. If no informant is available, please mention this on your initial call: we can discuss whether an assessment is still possible and what it would involve.

Is this assessment right for you?

This assessment is designed for you if…

  • You're an adult (18+) seeking a formal autism diagnosis
  • You've been on an NHS waiting list, or want to avoid joining one
  • You have someone who can complete the informant interview
  • You want a report you can share with your GP, employer, or university

It may not be the right fit if…

  • You're under 18 — we assess adults only
  • You're in crisis or need urgent mental health support
  • You're looking for ongoing therapy rather than assessment

Not sure? That's exactly what the free initial call is for — there's no obligation to continue afterwards.
